Kathleen "Kay" Wenger, M.A. – Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Orange County
With over 28 years of experience, I specialize in helping couples and individuals navigate relationships, anxiety, and life transitions. I believe in a compassionate, solution-focused approach to therapy, tailored to your unique needs.
With over 28 years of experience as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Kathleen "Kay" Wenger has dedicated her career to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. She believes that healing begins with compassion, insight, and practical strategies, and her solution-focused approach empowers clients to create meaningful, lasting change.
Kay’s expertise spans a wide range of therapeutic areas, including couples and marriage therapy, premarital counseling, adolescent mental health, anxiety, and depression. She tailors each session to meet the unique needs of her clients, blending proven therapeutic techniques with warmth and understanding.
Beyond her private practice, Kay has made a lasting impact as an educator, mentor, and leader in the field of psychology. She taught and trained graduate-level therapists at Pepperdine University for over 25 years, where she served as Manager of M.A. Clinical Training and Professional Development. She has also led numerous workshops and trainings for aspiring therapists, shaping the next generation of mental health professionals.
Kay is also the co-founder of the National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists (MarriageFriendlyTherapists.com), a platform dedicated to helping individuals and couples connect with experienced, relationship-focused therapists. The registry also serves as an essential resource for therapists, providing valuable training opportunities, networking, and mentorship. Through her work with the registry, Kay has helped thousands of therapists gain insights into best practices for couples therapy and career development, ensuring that high-quality relationship counseling remains accessible and effective.
Kay’s passion for community mental health extends to her role as Clinical Supervisor for the behavioral health programs at the Susi Q Senior Center in Laguna Beach, where she facilitates the well-known "Coffee Talk with Kay" support group for seniors. She is also a founding member of several professional organizations dedicated to advancing marriage and family therapy education and training.
In therapy, Kay creates a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and relationships without judgment. She believes that there is no single "right" way to heal, and she works collaboratively with clients to help them let go of old expectations, strengthen their self-awareness, and redefine what happiness and fulfillment mean for them.
Kay is available for in-person sessions at her Laguna Beach office as well as virtual therapy through Telehealth.
Therapy is a deeply personal journey, and I believe there is no single "right" way to heal. My approach is interactive and solution-focused, meaning I work collaboratively with you to identify challenges, build on strengths, and develop practical strategies that foster growth and well-being. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all method—each client is unique, and so is the way we navigate their healing process.
At the core of my practice is a commitment to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel supported in exploring their thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Whether you’re facing difficulties in your relationship, struggling with anxiety or depression, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to help you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and resilience. Together, we’ll work toward meaningful change—on your terms.
